Alicante, the capital of the Costa Blanca, was known in Roman times as Lucentum, “the city of light”. The bright sunshine from the Mediterranean is filling every single corner of this cosmopolitan city. Tour will get started at the largest fortress in Spain, Santa Barbara’s Castle, located on top of Mount Benacantil. From its walls, the best views of the city can be enjoyed, including the coastal strip along the Bay of Alicante and the small island of Nueva Tabarca, a real shelter for pirates during centuries. Then your guide will lead you to the famous Promenade of Spain, with its tricoloured mosaic made of marble tiles and flanked by beautiful palms. A stroll through downtown Alicante will take us to the City Hall square, a jewel of the baroque civil architecture, and to the sober and impressive Saint Nicholas Cathedral, to finally pay a short visit to the museum devoted to the local festivities, Hogueras de San Juan, when the city lives in a permanent ecstasy of beauty, fire and music.
