We are offering you 8 different tours to the three different Wine Designations of Origin in Murcia Region (Jumilla, Yecla & Bullas), for you to have the best possible experiences in an area whose wines have undergone a big boost in recent times.
JUAN GIL WINERY (Jumilla)
Renowned for its quality wines, and having secured may international prizes, Bodegas Juan Gil is also the best-selling regional winery worldwide, in fact the only murcian brand you can buy for sure in Tokyo or New York. Tour includes a visit to its facilities, located in the heart of the vineyards surrounding Jumilla, to get to know the processes of wine production that have led them to earn that reputation, and includes a tasting with local appetizers (tapas). A really lovely outing as the whole area also has a deep scenic interest.
LUZÓN WINERY (Jumilla)
One of the biggest and also of the most state-of-the art wineries in Jumilla, Bodegas Luzón’s visit provides you with a detailed description of its wine making process, as its facilities include a really huge vinification room for 50.000 liters, two aging rooms holding 5.000 french and american oak barrels, bottle racks (with constant conditions of temperature and humidity achieved through their semi-burial) and the sanctuary where a selection of bottles from each vintage are kept and guarded as treasures.
VALLE DEL ACENICHE (Bullas)
Are you interested in good value wine tours? Well, not many people know that currently the best wines in Murcia are produced in the Bullas’ Wine Designation of Origin. This tour takes you a small town by the same name, lying by the Northwest, truly the heart of this winemaking area, to later on head for a unique setting known as Valle del Aceniche, 800 meters high and even with its own micro-climate, to visit one of the family-owned wineries that are to be found there. After touring the vineyards, you’ll be enjoying a tasting of 5 different wines -produced in an ecologcial fashion- alongside local tapas. This is what we clearly consider the best wine experience you can get right know in the Region.
DOUBLE WINERY TOUR (Bullas)
This tour takes you to the heart of the wine growing area surrounding Bullas to enjoy the main wines produced in the spectacular setting that Valle del Aceniche actually is. Overthere we can find two different family-owned wineries, both very close to each other, but producing very different wines. First comes Bodegas Monastrell, named after the name of the prevailing grape variety in the area; its methods are completely organic, and they are the first winery in the Region getting the Carbon Footprint certificate, that meaning their process doesn’t produce any wastes nor use any chemicals at all. Secondly we will be visiting Bodegas Balcona, a project of a woman alone, whose main pride is producing soulful wines from vines sixty years old, grown in their chalky, clay and slatey terroir, which you will be stepping over.
LA CERCA VINEYARD (CARTAGENA)
Find out about the latest addition to our wine tours’ catalogue: a brand new winery set by the heart of Cartagena’s countryside, in the vecinity of the small village of Pozo Estrecho, that will allow you to taste the local wine without involving a long drive north of the Region, as usual. Viña Las Cepas is the result of a single young man’s effort who has resumed his family’s old tradition of winemaking, and that is succeeding in bringing back long time forgotten local wine specialties. The tour will be topped by enjoying a typical countryside brunch alongside the wine tasting. What else could you ask for?
SCENIC WINE TOUR (Jumilla)
This tour combines wine tourism and a really attractive excursion in just one outing, as it consists of, firstly, an impressive panoramic drive through the best scenery in the Region, that of Ricote Valley, following the trail carved by the Segura River throughout it, and including some stunning views on the way; secondly, we will be paying a visit to one of the best wineries in the area belonging to the Jumilla Designation of Origin, that of Viña Elena, where you will be touring its facilities before enjoying a tasting of three different wines alongside local appetizers (tapas). This is actually a good value tour!
BODEGAS BARAHONDA (Yecla)
The least known of the 3 Wine Designations of Origin in the Region -maybe on account of its more remote location from the coastline-, Yecla has still plenty to offer, from outstanding scenic beauty to really interesting wines. Barahonda is currently the largest winery to be found there, producing 700.000 bottles, 95% of them being exported, a company that has successfully adapted to new times. Completely refurbished in 2006, its facilities are actually a joy for the wine lover, mainly because they show how much care they put in the wine making process, from the vineyards to final steps such as the second malic fermentation –exclusive for high quality wines- , achieved always sticking to traditions.
BODEGAS CASTAÑO (Yecla)
We can clearly say that, although Murcia Region has traditionally been soil for red wines mostly, Yecla is successfully producing some very interesting white ones, with long mouth distinctive flavours but inexpensive. In this tour you will be visiting one of the most traditional wineries by the heart of town, Bodegas Castaño, and after being instructed in their wine making process (and tasting the product), you will be able to enjoy a hearty lunch whose main course will be a really tasty paella cooked in front of you with log fire. Of course, the different Castaño wines will be generously poured…
