ALGAMECA: MAIN CARTAGENA'S WATERCOURSE
April Friday the 3rd – Price: 12 €
What is La Algameca? One of the most hidden and distinctive corners in Cartagena. When the Navy chose to locate their facilities by the right extreme of the harbour in the 18th century, they mainly did two things: build a wall surrounding them and divert the existing ravine that led flood waters into the sea. The resulting new watercourse – La Algameca Chica- was started to become used by the locals as a very humble summer resort when getting to the sea, actually looking like a small Hong-Kong, as many people now call it in the city because it does resemble an asian settlement. On our way there we will also spot some quite interesting eclectic buildings from the late 19th and early 20th century on top of the remaining pieces from the 18th century wall.
Meeting Point & Time: Plaza de España (Cartagena); 10.30 AM ( Ends 1 PM ) – Duration: 2 hours – No Pick-Ups – Minimum of 6 people – See Map for Meeting Point
